Avery has had quite a year. I say it every year but the time just flies. I can't believe that she will be starting kindergarten in the fall. Avery has grown so much this year; especially socially and emotionally. She is more confident, more independent and more outgoing in social situations. I thought this past year the pandemic would make her more shy and reserved but nope. The kid will talk to anyone who will listen. She continues to be sweet, sassy, kind and grateful. Avery cracks us up with her half girly girl side, half evil sith side. She has 4 action figures: Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Captain Marvel and Black Widow. Bad boys and bad ass girls - I can dig it. In Avery's own words: "I love bad guys." I am scared for teenage years! She flourished in school; thankfully able to be in person the entire time from fall 2020 to spring 2021. Her teachers constantly spoke of her kindness and her big heart. Because of covid regulations, parents were not allowed inside the school this year so cars lined up to drop kids off. Avery could tell us what friend belonged to each car. It was funny watching the kids stick their heads out of the car windows to scream good morning to one another. The silver lining of covid restrictions!
This past year she has been really interested in making other people happy, knowing that she does not necessarily get something in return. She had her first haircut where she donated 12 inches of hair to other children in need. When Oliver was in the hospital this past fall, Avery wanted to get him something special and chose a ball pit. She did extra chores to earn him that ball pit and thought of it all on her own. She has made cards for friends who have lost pets, friends who were sick and other people who might have been feeling lonely around Christmas and due to the pandemic. Avery had been missing her GG something fierce this year. Because of the pandemic we did not see GG (until recently) for over a year, the longest Avery has ever gone without seeing her. She sent GG many cards, asked to call/facetime and even picked out a small angel to send to GG during Christmas because she thought GG would want something special. She does these things on her own. Avery has a big heart and it continues to grow with her.
This year has clearly been like no other. She completed her first year of preschool remotely. Thankfully was able to do her second year all in school, with masks. She attended her first drive in concert. She became quite the ski bunny. And learned some life lessons that I wasn't quite prepared to teach due to a raging pandemic. But like most young children, something horrible and life changing made Avery more resilient. She has shown bravery, kindness, gratefulness, sacrifice and understanding. I am in constant awe with this kid. I am proud (can ya tell?). I am grateful. I am a mom to one beautiful, awesome wild flower. Happy birthday to my little girl! I can't wait to see what 5 brings you!
