Wildflower

When I was pregnant with Avery, Chris and I liked to play music for her. Chris insisted on David Bowie (who I'm not a huge fan of however she still loves to listen to him to this day). I liked to play random things for her like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (both Judy Garland and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's versions), anything Beatles and "Wildflowers" by Tom Petty. Before I knew anything about my child I always played this song for her and felt like it was the perfect song for her. When she was born, we would play music at night (mostly for my sanity while I was up in the middle of the night with her). This song was on her playlist. Now that she is growing and blossoming into her own little person, this song could not have been more perfect for her. When I hear it I think of her.

Today I took her to a sunflower festival because I knew she would love it and was I ever right. Avery wanted to touch every sunflower (there were thousands so yeah right kid). The farm had horses and chickens. She was obsessed with the horses. Loved to pet them. At first she called them doggies which people got a kick out of. When I corrected her she would call them "see". We went back to visit the horses a few times. Every time we saw one she would gasp and yell "see! see!". Of course we touched all the trees and leaves as well and ate lunch under a big tree. She is our free spirited, nature loving, wild child. I hope her overflowing love for the outdoors, nature and animals continues to grow with her. It is so special to me and Chris. She will always be our little wildflower.

You belong among the wildflowers

You belong in a boat out at sea

Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worries
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free

Summer Time and Toddler Livin's Easy

The summer has been flying by. Avery, being an outdoorsy gal, has been loving summer time. She is always content with just playing outside in the back yard or swinging on her swing. But she also loves the pool, playing at the park, taking walks and hiking. She has been discovering different trees, flowers, animals and buggies. Avery will also literally wave to each car that passes by when we are outside. She is one happy and friendly little toddler. She likes to "ham it up" out in public and say hi and wave to everyone. A man at a restaurant said she looks like a queen waving to everyone and I said she sure acts like one! She is learning how to share and testing her limits, as she should. Now she makes a face when she knows she is doing something bad. We call it the "Blue Steel" (for any Zoolander fans out there), where she squints her eyes and purses her lips. The kid cracks me up. There is a photo near the bottom of this blog that features this look. In this particular photo, she is turning her milk cup upside down. Which she knows is a "no thank you". 😉She is becoming her own little person (silly, smart and fun) and we love watching her grow!
